Crafting a Nature Table or Nature Tableau is a great tradition to start when you have small children in the home. Kids naturally pick up stuff outside in the yard, at the park or on their daily walk that they want to keep – the Nature Table provides a special place in the house where these items can “live” and provides a creative, low-tech play area where you build “scenes” or tableaus together.
After the initial setup of location and basic materials, the kids will come and go to the table, bringing in new items from time to time and moving things around. Then when the seasons change you can store the items in a basket under the table, and change out the basic color scheme with new cloth colors: white for winter, light greens and yellows for spring, and rich greens and blues for summer.
